Summer for me is nature’s designated time for slowing down, and an invitation to re-evaluate my goals and life in general.

This is more of a recent perspective and permission I’ve given myself over the last few years. I used to be the person who never slowed down and as a result, I would find myself run down, overworked and slightly unable to enjoy the simple moments.

Looking back, there was the fear that if I slowed down, I would lose momentum and all my good habits would go out the window.

But now, I see rest as an integral part of living a life of health and balance.

It is during rest that our priorities become clear. Giving myself permission to rest, relax has taught me that as strange as it sounds, health, good habits and even productivity thrive in simplifying.

So today, I want to share 5 simple health-centered habits I love to embrace in the summer months that truly energize the mind, body and heart:

1.     Fresh air daily: I love sitting in my balcony first thing in the morning and take as many walks I as I possibly can but at least 1 daily walk.

2.     Moments of face-to-face connection: there’s just something about being with others in person that increases our wellbeing. The summer is a great time to be more social and reap the benefits of human connection.

3.     A stretch, a walk, a dance/fitness class: another simple way to feel more energized and improve your health is to move your body and somehow this is something that comes easier and more naturally in the summer – who knows it may be start of a great new habit.

4.     Balancing your plate at breakfast, lunch and dinner: you may know by now that I’m no fan of high-anything nor low-anything diets. Embrace balance and simplicity by including some healthy fats, proteins and complex carbs at each meal.

5.     Unplug from tech & social media: a break from your phone and favorite social media platforms not only will give your brain a much-needed break, but will also create space for the ideas, creativity and insights you may have been searching for.

How about you friend? Are you also embracing a slower pace this summer?
